Job Description

Overview Colorado Public Radio (CPR) is seeking an Executive Producer of Audio Projects. About the Position: The Executive Producer of Audio Projects will lead the on-demand audio team at CPR News. The primary products produced by this team include Colorado Today (daily news podcast), Colorado in Depth (documentary podcast), and Purplish (a Colorado politics podcast created in collaboration with CPR’s public affairs reporting team). This team also supports other podcast products in the newsroom, including Colorado Matters. You’ll manage the production schedules for daily and longer-term podcasts by working with editors across the newsroom on upcoming stories; assigning producers and hosts; managing the editing and script writing process; producing interviews in-studio and occasionally in the field, and overseeing post-production. Beyond audio content production, you’ll be an advocate for news audio projects within CPR, presenting to staff and board members, contributing to newsroom training, appearing at CPR-sponsored events to promote the podcasts, and rallying others to support CPR digital audio creation, and help set digital audio strategy. Residency You are expected to reside in the greater Denver metro area upon starting - this is not a remote position. This position works out of the office every weekday. About You You are an experienced, resilient team leader with a collaborative mindset, someone who thrives on working across an organization to elevate the work of others. You bring strong editorial judgment and journalistic ethics, and you’re confident making quick news decisions when needed. You believe deeply in serving folks statewide - understanding their interests, habits, and needs. Audio is your passion and you’re motivated by reaching new, digital-first audiences. You’re an avid podcast listener who knows and loves the medium, and you have hands-on experience with audio production and editing. You’re a team player who is adaptable day-to-day: happy doing the nitty gritty or stepping back to provide leadership and vision. You’re skilled at designing news products for audiences, managing show calendars, and planning ahead to deliver high-quality results. Minimum Qualifications A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience including developing audio project strategy, production, editorial judgment, and daily news. A minimum of 3 years of team leadership and management experience. Demonstrated ability to manage staff with diverse backgrounds, skills, and working styles. Experience leading the full creative and production process - from story selection and guest booking to scripting, recording, editing, and coordinating with producers, editors and journalists - resulting in quality long-form journalism. Demonstrated success in strategically designing audio projects with audience development in mind. Strong understanding of digital audio’s role in today’s media landscape, with familiarity in news podcast formats and trends. Awareness of issues facing Coloradans and a commitment to serving local audiences. Comfort working collaboratively in a daily news environment where roles and priorities may change quickly especially during breaking news. Education Equivalency A fully relatable bachelor’s or master’s degree may replace some of the required years of experience needed to qualify for the position, but is not required for the role. Don\'t meet every single requirement? Research has shown that women and people of color are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At Colorado Public Radio, we are committed to building a diverse, inclusive, equitable and authentic workplace. If you\'re excited about this role, but your past experience doesn\'t perfectly align with every qualification in the job posting, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles with us. Colorado Public Radio is proud to offer a comprehensive benefits package that reflects our culture of caring. Our employees have access to: 100 percent employer paid individual health, dental, life, and disability coverage; an outstanding paid family medical leave policy plus paid holidays and a very generous sick, vacation, and personal time off plan; voluntary offerings such as vision; a retirement plan with no waiting or vesting periods; flexible schedules; engagement and development opportunities; and a casual atmosphere. Position Information Position Type: Full-time Hiring Range: Grade 20 - $80,500 - $107,300 Starting Pay: based on experience. Application Requirements Click here to apply. Please upload a resume (preferably in PDF format) and answer our application questions. If our team is interested in moving you on to next steps, we’ll be requesting two work samples from you. Application Deadline: This position was posted on August 29th. While we sometimes keep our roles open for 30 days, we recommend you apply as soon as possible as the posting may close before September 27th if we have a strong candidate pool. Incomplete Applications will not be considered. At Colorado Public Radio we are committed to cultivating and sustaining a diverse and inclusive workplace that helps us represent the voices of the communities within Colorado. We highly encourage candidates with unique contributions such as ethnicity, race, sex, gender identity, nation of origin, age, language, veteran status, color, religion, disability and sexual orientation to apply to our openings. CPR is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes everyone to our team. If you need reasonable accommodation at any point in the application or interview process, please let us know. #J-18808-Ljbffr AAJA25
