Adjunct Faculty are hired each semester on an as-needed basis. Adjunct Faculty are responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Facilitates student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with College policy and course objectives. Makes optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods. Develops/maintains course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials. Maintains accurate student records, grades, and other requirements. Engages with students in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and leads to a positive experience with Ivy Tech Community College, shows evidence of developing and implementing active classroom teaching strategies focused on engaging students with their learning (curricular). Interacts with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner, complies with College policies, campus guidelines and expectations. Ensures knowledge of and implements emergency and safety procedures for classrooms, labs and all learning environments. RETENTION AND STUDENT SUCCESS: Provide academic-related coaching and academic monitoring to assigned student advisees in partnership with professional academic advising staff. Monitor and document student performance throughout the semester, including use of technology for academic advising alerts; provide necessary interventions to include communication with students, tutoring and other academic supports, and referrals to appropriate college resources. Maintain posted office hours and student engagement hours in accordance with campus expectations and the faculty loading policy in the Academic Support and Operations Manual (ASOM 7.2). Promote and assist in student recruitment, retention, and successful completion of programs, including outreach to students by phone, technology tools, and other electronic means. Availability for teaching assignments between 9am-12pm or 12pm-3pm (Daytime), preferred. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Program Chair, Department Chair, or Dean. SUPERVISION GIVEN: None. All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must have strong working knowledge of current technologies appropriate to area of instruction and meet faculty credentials as outlined in the ASOM 7.1 for the specific area(s) of instruction. Conducts all activities with an appreciation, respect, and promotion of diversity of people, styles, and views. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should possess an associate degree or higher in criminal justice, legal studies, paralegal, or a related field in criminal justice, law enforcement, courts, community mental health, or legal. For virtual instruction, instructors must reside within Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, or Kentucky. In person instructors should reside within a reasonable driving distance of either the South Bend or Elkhart locations. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preferred candidates should possess a bachelor degree or higher in criminal justice, legal studies, paralegal, or a related field with 3-5 years of field experience in criminal justice, law enforcement, courts, community mental health, or legal work.
