About the Role:

The Medical Receptionist 1 at Digestive Healthcare Associates (DHNY) serves as the vital first point of contact for patients and visitors, ensuring a welcoming and efficient experience. This role is essential in managing patient flow by scheduling appointments, verifying patient information, and coordinating communication between patients and healthcare providers. The receptionist will handle administrative tasks such as managing patient records, processing insurance information, and maintaining confidentiality in compliance with healthcare regulations. By effectively managing front desk operations, the Medical Receptionist 1 supports the clinical team in delivering timely and quality care. Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a medical office or healthcare setting preferred but not required.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare office procedures.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and electronic health record (EHR) software.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certification as a Medical Receptionist or Medical Administrative Assistant.
  • Experience working in a gastroenterology or specialty healthcare practice.
  • Familiarity with insurance verification and billing processes.
  • Bilingual abilities, especially in Spanish or other commonly spoken languages in the community.
  • Advanced proficiency with scheduling software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Responsibilities:
  • Greet patients and visitors promptly and courteously, providing assistance and directing them appropriately.
  • Schedule, confirm, and reschedule patient appointments using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Verify patient insurance coverage and collect co-payments or other fees as required.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Answer incoming phone calls, respond to inquiries, and route calls to the appropriate staff members.
  • Coordinate communication between patients, healthcare providers, and administrative staff to facilitate efficient patient care.
  • Manage daily administrative tasks including filing, faxing, and data entry to support office operations.
  • Assist with billing and insurance documentation as needed to support the revenue cycle process.
