The Mid-Ohio Food Collective (MOFC), along with its partners, is proud to introduce the 2026 Farm Mentorship Program. This program is designed to bring awareness and education to our local community about sustainable food production. Focusing on the principles of Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) and urban agriculture techniques, MOFC is committed to educating and training the next generation of farmers.
The Farm Mentorship Program is a workforce training program that provides the knowledge, skills and experience necessary for future career opportunities in agriculture. Mentees design crop plans to be executed in their individual learning plots. Mentees also complete coursework and earn multiple certifications necessary for farm operations. By the end of the program, mentees will be equipped with training that could be used to start and operate an urban farm, or to join an existing operation as a skilled farmer.
This program runs from February 2026 through November 2026 and requires participants to work 20 hours/week.
What would I be doing in the Farm Mentorship Program?As a key member of the Farm Mentorship Program at Mid-Ohio Food Collective, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining individual learning plots that focus on sustainable food production. Your role will involve completing coursework and certifications that enhance your expertise in innovative agricultural practices. You will gain hands-on experience operating and managing greenhouse equipment, utilizing various growing systems, and assisting in the installation and maintenance of essential farm infrastructure. Daily activities will include meticulous record keeping, the safe use of hand and power tools, and conducting quality control checks on produce prior to distribution. Additionally, you will collaborate on special projects with Farm Managers and external partners, contributing to an environment that promotes continuous improvement and adherence to updated standard operating procedures.

What we're looking for in a participant of the Farm Mentorship Program.To excel in the Farm Mentorship Program at Mid-Ohio Food Collective, candidates must possess a diverse skill set and a strong commitment to learning. The ability to work efficiently both independently and collaboratively is essential, ensuring high-quality output while managing time effectively. Excellent verbal communication skills are crucial for following and providing clear directions among team members.
Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks will aid in effective decision-making and accomplishment of objectives. A genuine desire to learn and innovate in farming techniques is fundamental, along with an eagerness to test new ideas and build upon both successes and failures. Knowledge of vegetable and horticultural concepts preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft programs will be necessary to maintain detailed records and report on farm activities.
A High School Diploma or GED is required, and candidates must have a valid Driver's License.
Job ConditionsThis position is based in an urban farm setting and requires a person to work outside in all weather conditions performing manual labor. Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, and lifting required. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Daily physical field work includes greenhouse seeding, planting, row-covering, fertilizing, weeding, harvesting, washing, and packing of produce.
