Genie Healthcare is seeking a travel nurse RN Pediatric Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Hutchinson, Kansas.

Job Overview

• Role: RN – Pediatric Med/Surg
• Shift: 12-hour rotating Day/Night shifts, 7a–7p or 7p–7a
• Schedule: Every other weekend (Sat/Sun) + holidays
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 per week

• Charting System: Cerner Soarian (2014)

   

Unit Details

• Unit Type: Pediatrics – Med/Surg
• Beds: 4 private rooms
• Staffing Ratio: 1:4 (2 nurses always staffed, regardless of census)
• Support Staff:
  • No CNAs/PCTs
  • House supervisor available 24/7
  • Mid-level coverage available
  • RT available at all times
• Float Requirement: May float to LDRP for newborn/postpartum assistance

Patient Population

• Common Diagnoses: Gastroenteritis, Asthma, RSV, General Respiratory Issues, Dehydration
• Respiratory Support: Heated high-flow O2 and CPAP on unit (no vents/trachs); equipment managed by both RT & nursing
• No cardiac monitoring: No strips to read or interpret, no monitor techs

Requirements & Skills

• Certifications: BLS, PALS
• Experience Required: Pediatric Med/Surg
• Preferred Experience: Peds ED or Peds ICU
• No drips required

Scheduling & Orientation

• Shifts: 12 hours, rotating days/nights
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Sat/Sun)
• Holiday Requirement: Yes
• Scheduling: Set by manager, 6 weeks in advance, potential block scheduling
• Orientation: 1 general orientation shift + 3 floor shifts with preceptor
