Position Description: Purpose A Standardized Patient (SP) is an individual trained to portray all aspects of a real patient to facilitate student learning and evaluation of clinical skills. SPs learn to simulate a patient's appearance, demeanor, chief complaint, symptoms, medical history, family history, and physical findings. They also provide feedback on communication and interpersonal skills. The goal is to give students practice in a safe, clinical environment before entering their professional careers. Primary Functions Attend and participate in training activities to prepare for portraying patient roles. Consistently portray a patient based on case studies during staged medical encounters, including interviews and physical procedures. Observe and document learner performance based on case requirements. Evaluate learners' verbal and non-verbal communication skills. Communicate availability for work and report as scheduled. Essential Behaviors Reliable: Dependable, punctual, flexible, and able to follow through with scheduled appointments and evaluations. Ability to be instructed and to simulate cases accurately and reliably. Willingness to participate in videotaping for educational purposes. Effective listening and communication skills, with openness to feedback. Cross-cultural sensitivity. Ability to complete evaluations and provide feedback on students, either verbally or in written form. Preferred Schedule: Details to be provided. Position Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to work cooperatively with learners, staff, and faculty. Capability to be instructed and to portray cases consistently. Flexibility and reliability with scheduling. Ability to fit certain age, gender, race, and ethnicity attributes as required. Specifications Education: High school diploma or GED; effective verbal and written communication skills. Experience: Acting experience is helpful.
