Responsibilities A Standardized Patient (SP) is trained to portray patient characteristics for the purpose of training and assessment of health care students and professionals. SPs provide non-biased portrayals and constructive feedback to enhance learner communication and examination skills. Consistently and accurately portray medical scenarios during mock interviews, live or recorded demonstrations, and physical examinations. Respond to basic medical history questions in a standardized manner. Improvise appropriately when an interview or exam does not follow the script. Maintain confidentiality of information related to cases, student behaviors, and evaluations. Undergo repeated physical examination maneuvers performed on oneself, wearing only undergarments and a hospital gown when observed. Instruct learners on correct techniques for examinations such as Neurological, Abdominal, Head & Neck, Cardiovascular, Pulmonary, and Musculoskeletal. Undergo repeated ultrasound examination maneuvers performed on oneself, ensuring exposed areas are appropriately covered. Prepare and memorize case scenarios, including chief complaints, history, physical exam findings, and role behaviors. Complete standardized patient orientation and ongoing training sessions, participating in group training and mentorship. Provide educationally constructive verbal feedback and demonstrate objectivity in learner interactions. Covers main office phones and performs basic administrative functions as needed. Minimum Education & Experience High School graduation or equivalent. Required. 6 months of work or volunteer experience. Preferred. Experience in theater, a medical field, or education. Preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Understand and follow instructions accurately. Simulate case scenarios reliably and professionally. Strong written and oral communication; proficient in reading and writing detailed case training. Accurately portray a wide range of roles and remain in character throughout interactions. Fluency in more than one language. Organized, reliable, and punctual. Willing and able to work a varied, flexible schedule. Preferred.
