Senior Producer, The Athletic Football Show - CHI (Chicago, IL)

Powered by one of the largest global newsrooms in sports media, The Athletic brings sports fans the most comprehensive stories about the teams, sports and athletes they love. The Athletic's newsroom of 500+ full-time staff delivers in-depth coverage of hundreds of professional and college teams across more than 47 North American markets and all 20 football clubs in the English Premier League, as well as many Championship clubs.

About The Role

We are seeking a creative, detail-oriented Sr. Producer to drive the development of The Athletic Football Show's fan community. Reporting to a show's executive producer, the Sr Producer is responsible for overseeing the creative ideation and production process of social media content (video, IG carousels, tweets), for developing and implementing fan engagement strategies (listener polls, commenting, contests, etc) and moderating community gatherings (moderating chats during livestreams, moderating the TAFS subreddit and Discord, etc). The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with social media content production, audience development and engagement, and YouTube/TikTok/Instagram channel management. You are passionate about social media and the NFL. This role is hybrid (partially remote, partially in office) and must be based in Chicago.

Social Media Strategy Development

  • Design and execute a comprehensive social media strategy to increase audience growth, engagement, and retention across platforms (e.g., Instagram, X/Twitter, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, Threads).
  • Align content strategy with the podcast's brand voice, tone, and editorial mission.

Content Creation and Curation

  • Develop and produce platform-optimized content including audiograms, reels, memes, quote cards, behind-the-scenes footage, and video clips from podcast episodes.
  • Write compelling copy for posts, captions, and CTAs that drive conversation and engagement.

Community Management

  • Monitor and respond to audience comments, messages, and trends in real-time to foster community and loyalty.
  • Engage with listeners, fans, and influencers in the podcast's niche to maintain an active online presence.

Analytics and Reporting

  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as reach, engagement rate, follower growth, and click-through rates.
  • Generate regular performance reports and apply insights to optimize content and posting schedules.

Episode Promotion and Scheduling

  • Coordinate social media rollouts for new podcast episodes, bonus content, and guest appearances.
  • Manage a content calendar that supports timely and strategic promotion of episodes and events.

Trend Monitoring and Innovation

  • Stay current on social media trends, tools, algorithms, and platform updates.
  • Experiment with new formats and creative approaches to storytelling and promotion.

Collaborations and Cross-Promotion

  • Work with podcast guests, influencers, and brand partners on co-branded content or cross-platform promotion.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., production, marketing, PR) to ensure cohesive messaging and brand consistency.

Brand Voice Stewardship

  • Maintain a consistent and authentic voice across all social channels that aligns with the podcast's tone and values.
  • Ensure all posts adhere to brand guidelines and ethical standards.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in photo and video production, audio and video editing, and social media content creation.
  • Proficiency with image and video editing software (Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Strong research skills and the ability to develop new creative formats and concepts.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with YouTube platform dynamics and social media best practices.
  • A passion for and fluency with the important names, organizations, and trends shaping the NFL.
  • Must be based in Chicago and open to part-time in-office work.
