Job Description

We are Rocky Mountain Prep, a movement comprised of incredible educators, families, scholars, and advocates who are changing the face of public education in Colorado by democratizing college access and preparation for historically marginalized students and families. On paper, we are a network of twelve college preparatory charter schools in the Denver metro area serving students as young as twelve weeks through twelfth grade.

During the 2024-2025 school year, RMP is driving after five big goals:

  2. 100% of campuses going green & ECE-2nd grade students growing an average of 1.25 years in math and reading
  3. 100% of seniors accepted into college
  4. 40% of 3rd-8th grade students meet their Accelerated Reader millionaire goal
  5. RMP meets its network enrollment goal

Role Mission

Rocky Mountain Prep (RMP) is a network of high-performing public charter schools committed to educational equity, rigorous academics, and joyful classrooms. At RMP, we ensure that every teacher receives the support, coaching, and development needed to thrive and drive student success.

The Opportunity

The Director of Academic upholds the bar of rigor in their content area. This person leads the design, monitoring, and refinement of scope and sequences, assessments, and instructional materials to ensure alignment with grade-level rigor. They manage the assessment lifecycle—including creation, revision, protocols, and integrity—while using data analysis to inform responsive instructional planning in collaboration with key stakeholders. The Director also develops and facilitates a yearlong professional development vision in collaboration with their manager aligned to network priorities. Instructional expertise, an unwavering belief in student ability, and collaborative leadership are essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

1. Resource Management

  • Develop and maintain normed, network-wide scope and sequences for all assigned content areas.
  • Create and revise internal assessments to ensure alignment with grade-level rigor, network assessment strategy, and scope & sequence.
  • Oversee curriculum materials management across campuses by supporting effective use, coordinating annual spring inventories, and partnering with vendors to order materials as needed.

2. Assessment Management

  • Develop or revise assessments to ensure alignment with grade-level standards and rigor.
  • Design and communicate clear assessment protocols to support consistent implementation across campuses.
  • Monitor the fidelity of assessment administration and the integrity of assessment outcomes.
  • Track and support timely, accurate data entry and ensure high levels of student participation.

3. Data Analysis and Response

  • Analyze student data to interpret outcomes and identify trends, collaborating with key stakeholders to create targeted instructional plans in response.
  • Partner with the Director of Data and Assessment to ensure a cohesive approach to data analysis, strategy development, and progress monitoring across the network.

4. Professional Development

  • In collaboration with the Academic Team, develop a year-long vision for professional development in your content area.
  • Plan and facilitate high-quality professional development sessions, and partner with external vendors as needed to support teacher growth and capacity building.

5. On Campus Development

  • Conduct campus walkthroughs to monitor curriculum implementation and follow up on professional development outcomes.
  • Provide targeted support to ensure the use of rigorous teaching practices through leading lesson internalization meetings, modeling instruction, and responding to data

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Deep understanding of elementary literacy development, with particular expertise in building background knowledge and content-rich instruction through curricula like CKLA Knowledge.
  • Experience teaching or supporting the implementation of a new curriculum, with the ability to reflect on effective practices and contribute to building teacher and leader capacity around instructional materials.
  • Strong assessment literacy, with the ability to set a cohesive vision for K–5 literacy assessments and use data to drive reteach plans and instructional improvements.
  • Knowledge of the common core shifts in literacy and how to ensure alignment to these shifts in curriculum implementation.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in education, including teaching, instructional coaching, or leadership roles.
  • Proven track record of driving academic excellence and closing opportunity gaps for historically marginalized student groups.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of experience in elementary literacy instruction, ideally in 3rd-5th grade, with a strong record of improving student outcomes
  • Experience leading implementation of CKLA Knowledge curriculum in 3rd-5th grade
  • Familiarity with key K–5 literacy assessments (e.g., DIBELS, STAR, ANET, or curriculum-embedded assessments) and how to leverage data to inform instruction.
  • Experience supporting school-based reteach planning or instructional cycles tied to interim assessments.
  • Experience in a charter school or multi-site educational organization.
  • Bilingual proficiency is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary: Full-time position with a salary range of $85,000 to $120,000, based on experience and qualifications.
  • Benefits: Includes health insurance (medical, dental, vision), disability insurance, life insurance, PERA retirement, and paid time off.
