Summary

This summer intern position will provide qualified candidates a broad overview of our Claim Department operation, what we do and the importance of the claims experience to the overall success of the company. You will learn the basics of both first and third-party insurance claims handling, provide administrative and technical support to our claims staff and learn what claim adjusters do. At the conclusion of the program, you will understand the different claim career paths available and the skills necessary to have a successful and rewarding claims career.


Duties

• Support existing claim personnel in our Auto, Casualty, Property and Operations claim divisions.
• Learn how to interpret and apply policy coverages under Safetys various insurance policy offerings.
• Sets up first notice of loss using Safetys proprietary software programs.
• Use various software programs and databases to assist our claim adjusters adjust claims.
• Learn how to investigate claims, determine legal liability, establish reserves, evaluate damages by gathering information from insureds, claimants and witnesses.
• Learn how to apply the appropriate surcharge according to Massachusetts General Laws.
• Learn how to identify potential fraud.
• Learn how to identify all subrogation opportunities.
• Provide excellent customer service through prompt responses to inquiries and resolving issues within established levels of authority.
• Performs other activities as required

Qualifications

• Superior organization, attention to detail and time management skills
• Effective communications skills
• Ability to work co-operatively within a team environment
• Students pursuing an Associates Degree in good academic standing, with a GPA of 2.75 or above
