Job Description

The Behavioral Health Technician I position is responsible for providing direct and supportive care to clients/patients. Duties generally include, but are not limited to, providing general oversight of day-to-day activities and at times, redirect of clients/patients; health monitoring (vital signs), intervene/respond to crisis and communicate with established treatment team, facilitate group education/structured activities, and/or transport clients/patients as needed. Behavioral Health Technicians are responsible for possessing a basic understanding of client/patient treatment plan, monitoring and documenting client/patient behavior and providing safe, therapeutic, and supportive environment for clients/patients. Key responsibilities include admitting, supervising, monitoring, transferring, and discharging clients/patients; monitoring vital signs and symptoms of withdrawal; overseeing medication administration; facilitating client supervision checks; assisting with personal care; encouraging adherence to program expectations; participating in treatment teams; documenting client behavior; assisting in admission/orientation; facilitating urine collection and testing; operating telephone system; assisting and educating clients; monitoring client activities; fostering adaptive behavior; ensuring precaution protocols; monitoring general health; facilitating group rehabilitative support and education; providing transportation; maintaining behavior consistent with organization code of conduct; completing mandatory trainings; attending meetings; maintaining a safe and clean environment; reporting maintenance problems; adhering to program policies; and other duties as assigned. Knowledge required includes confidentiality laws, communication skills, ability to read and interpret documents, basic math skills, report writing, problem-solving, rapport establishment, and electronic medical record navigation. Experience and education qualifications include high school or equivalent with two years responsible employment, preferred experience in human services or related field, or exceptions by executive team. Additional requirements for specific programs and certifications are detailed. Employment requirements include background checks, orientation, training, valid driver's license, first aid and CPR certification, medication administration training, behavioral management training, and adherence to policies.
