Art Therapist Starting salary $62,858. Location: Northern VA Mental Health Institute. Agency: Dept Behavioral Health/Develop. Recruitment Type: General Public – G. Responsibilities Complete client assessments and develop individualized treatment plans. Deliver safe and effective art therapy or dance movement therapy programming to encourage self‑expression, enhance coping skills and foster personal growth. Engage in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings and provide consultative evaluations. Document progress in an electronic health record. Participate in special events, departmental and hospital‑wide initiatives, and utilize recovery and behavior‑management techniques. Provide Monday‑to‑Friday coverage with schedule flexibility and occasional holiday coverage. Qualifications Master’s degree in Art Therapy or Dance Movement Therapy. Experience evaluating individuals for therapy services, establishing treatment interventions and assessing effectiveness. Registered Art Therapist (ATR) or Registered Dance Movement Therapist (R‑DMT). Additional Considerations Board Certified Art Therapist (ATR‑BC) preferred. Experience providing therapy services to individuals in a psychiatric setting preferred. Trauma‑informed practice experience strongly preferred.
